We made a lot of progress last weekend on our clean-up day! Don’t forget that this coming Saturday, Citizens Committee for NYC is going lead a workshop to build a hoophouse (or greenhouse) at the Maple Street Community Garden. The workshop will be led by Maggie Cheney, director of Education & Farm at EcoStation NY in Bushwick, and co-sponsored by National Grid.
The workshop lasts from 10:30 – 3:30, and portions of the event will be filmed in the early afternoon.
All are welcome, and this workshop is free, but please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to secure your spot!
In addition to hosting the MillionTreesNYC Giveaway on Sunday, from 11-1, the Maple Street Community Garden will also be hosting a workshop on creating vertical pallet gardens from 12-3pm. The workshop will be presented by Sustainable Flatbush and EarthWorks, and attendees will learn how to make use of pallets to build their own garden. Pallets, soil and seeds provided, but please bring a container of your choice (suggestions: coffee can? recycled water gallon?). Donations accepted towards materials.
Even if you aren’t ready to adopt a tree or create your own pallet garden, please stop by and check out the progress at 237 Maple.
